Going It Alone! | The BIG Truck Giveaway Episode 11

The BIG Truck Giveaway is almost at it's end; the fitters have finished, all the major accessories have been added, which can only mean one thing... the rest is all up to Millie and Ruby! This episode, the girls took on the biggest 'Millie and Ruby's Mission' ever, being tasked with fitting curtains, seat covers, a steering wheel cover and a full set of floor and dash mats inside the cab; what could possibly go wrong?

Before fitting, the girls headed to the warehouse to pick out their accessories. They chose to stick with a black and grey colour scheme throughout the cab to create a sleek look, and so nothing would clash with the colours on the outside of the truck. With their items selected, it was time to start fitting...

Curtain Catastrophe:

Millie and Ruby decided to begin with the cab curtains, and it became instantly clear that they may have bitten off more than they could chew. The first challenge was removing the old cab curtains, but it wasn't clear how exactly they were supposed to come off. Failing to find a method, the girls resulted to the next best thing: completely ripping the curtains from the rail. It was only after this that they realised the new curtains didn't come with runners and they'd just snapped the old ones (in their defence, the runners were sewn into the old curtains, so some new ones would have been required anyway).

At a loss, Millie called Kim our Warehouse Operative for assistance! With her expert knowledge of our products, Kim was able to recommend the correct runners, teach the girls how to correctly thread the curtain hooks, and even help out with hanging the curtains themselves. Success!

Personalised Seat Covers:

From the very beginning of the series, we always knew we were going to add some personalised seat covers to our giveaway truck; as soon as the truck arrived at Kuda, we were delighted to get some seat covers from ByErnest. We then sent the seat covers away to none other than Tom's partner, who kindly stitched our BIG Truck Giveaway logo into them; we think her work here is absolutely fantastic, and the added design looks so professional (plus we love the added pink inside the cab!)

It was up to Ruby to fit the first seat cover, and she decided to start with the passenger side. The girls were happy to find that the bottom half of the covers were extremely easy to fit, perfectly moulding to the bottom of the seat. The top part was slightly more difficult, but once the velcro was sorted and the cover was properly adjusted, it was fitted in no time!

The second seat cover, fitted by Millie, went just as smoothly, and the girls were happy that this task had been so much more successful than the last. The seat covers look great, and the pop of pink added by the logo brings a colourful touch amongst the black and grey.

Steering Wheel Cover/ Floor Mats:

As with a lot of second hand trucks, our DAF's steering wheel was looking rather well-loved, so a cover was needed! The cover Millie and Ruby chose was a sleek, matte black, leather-look style, with hand grips to make driving even more comfortable and luxurious. The style was very similar to that of the seat covers, and we think they look great together.  The steering wheel cover was fitted by Millie, who managed to do so with very little difficulty. (However, Millie was later notified by an engineer this was in fact put on upside down, so much for 'going it alone', but don't worry this was soon sorted out)

It was then Ruby's turn to fit the floor mats, which truly required very little effort! First, the old mats were removed, and then the new ones were laid down. The girls had picked out some luxurious carpet mats tailored to the DAF XF, so it was very easy to see where each mat was supposed to go. With these added, as opposed to the previous rubber mats, the cab looked so much cosier and more homely, creating the perfect setting for our winner to unwind in the evening after a long day on the road.

It's All Done!:

After a quick clean, that was it: the final touch had been put on our giveaway truck! There was nothing left to add! It felt very surreal to finally reach this point, with so many polls and so many accessories added. We are so proud of this truck, and of our team for doing such a great job on it. There was now only one thing left to do before we give it away... Millie and Ruby had to spend the night in it!

The BIG Truck Sleepover:

Last episode, we asked our viewers what they'd like to see Millie and Ruby do with the truck before we give it away: a) cook dinner, b) sleep inside, or c) take the truck through a fast food drive through. By quite a fair margin, option b won, so the girls would be sleeping in the truck! However, we thought it would also be a missed opportunity if we didn't try out the TruckChef microwave at the same time, so the girls brought some microwave meals along with them (of course pasta was on the menu).

After eating their dinner and playing some games, Millie and Ruby settled down on the bunk to watch some TV, but not before watching a very special message from one of our favourite TikTok influencers- Becky Giles! Becky gave the girls some tips for sleeping in the truck- things they need to remember, things they should do, and more. It was great to hear from someone who drives trucks for a living and regularly sleeps in her cab!
